Peter Clarke

Artist

I studied at Camberwell School of Arts during the fifties, obtaining a solid grounding in life drawing, painting, architecture, lettering and sculpture.

I worked for many years in the graphic and printing industries, returning to fine art in the seventies taking any employment that would give me time for painting. During this period I worked towards abstraction, using collage, photography, and other media. I then returned to more figurative work thus completing the circle.

I started exhibiting in group shows at the Sutton College of Liberal Arts, following this I exhibited and sold at various corporate headquarters in the City of London.

My work has been exhibited at The Skylark Gallery on the south bank, The River Gallery Barnes, The Contemporary Art Gallery Twickenham, The Chelsea Arts Fair, and The Affordable Arts Fair Battersea. During 2001 and 2002 I had successfull one man shows at the The Quaker Gallery, St Martins Lane. In 2004 I exhibited with contemporaries and new graduates from Camberwell School of Arts, in show called 'Evolution and Revolution'.

During 2011 my work has been shown at the Bank-Side gallery. My pictures are also held in collections in both Europe and the U.S.A.

My wife Valerie and I ran our own gallery and studio in the South of France in Argeles sur Mer for a number of years, I was fortunate to win the Grand Prix for painting at the

Salon International de Valmy in 1998. We then moved inland to the mountains near the Spanish border close to Ceret, where I painted and worked fom the landscape.

We are now based in the U.K. and hope, this our virtual gallery, is as successful as our

old Atelier Nine in the South of France.
